Meadow Ridge Farm is a family-owned free-range pork farming business, nestled in the heart of the lush green Java, Virginia countryside. We provide families and businesses across Virginia and the United States with heritage pork, derived from pasture-raised hogs.
Our Roots
Our tale begins far away in West Africa, where our family's roots run deep. In this part of the world, pork was often regarded with skepticism. For generations, cultural beliefs and practices have cast pork as "dirty" meat, and we couldn't agree more. After all, pigs were known to be fed less than ideal things, and they were confined in their own mess.
When thinking about raising animals, the idea that comes to mind is free-ranging, herding sheep, cattle, and goats to different places, not confined in small places for a long time. What if that could be applied to pigs as well? Then we learned more about pastured pigs and were instantly drawn to the idea of a more ethical, sustainable, and humane approach to farming. This was our moment of transformation and our dream to continue our family tradition of farming started taking shape, even though it meant doing so with different animals on a different continent.
